2024 was an incredible year of new music. Some of our contributors here at The Live Wire shared their thoughts for what they believed some of the best records of the year were.

1. Eaglemont – Party Boy
I first came across Eaglemont last year as she opened for Cry Club and fell in love with her raw lyrical prowess. I simply added two of her songs to my everyday rotation, then became further obsessed upon watching her open for Platonic Sex a few months later. Fast forward to mid-2024, Eaglemont has a stack of extremely catchy singles in the world, and releases her debut album “Party Boy”, which became an instant collection of life-defining anthems that accompanied me on every train journey, study session, and emotional turmoil to come for the year. Upon my first listen, I posed the question of whether this album would become as significant to my late teens as Lorde’s Pure Heroine was to my early teen years, and I can successfully answer that question several months later with a resounding yes. From cathartic sing along moments with ‘Vodka Pineapple’ and ‘You Don’t Live Here’, to the tender glimpses of vulnerability present in ‘Normanby’ and ‘Ikea’, Eaglemont’s Party Boy truly soundtracked many of the major memories of my 2024.

Sleater Kinney Little Rope was such a raw and emotional album (read the review on the back story) and the Pixies throwing up an album that I didn’t shrug at due to patchiness were the perfect bookends to 2024.

1. Inertia – Second Shadow
Sydney metalcore crew Inertia came out of nowhere for me this year. In a year where Linkin Park, Kendrick Lamar and Alpha Wolf all dropped new music, and the formation of my all time favorite supergroup, Better Lovers, I did not expect Second Shadow to top my end of year list. Standout tracks include the title track, ‘Second Shadow’, ‘Leviathan’ (featuring Thornhill’s Jacob Charlton) and ‘Dying to Let You Go’. 2025 should line up to be a huge year for these boys. And I cannot wait!
