Single review by Harry Leithhead (Ragtag Productions)
Brisbane based psychedelic rock band ‘Bonsai Bay’ are dropping their newest single, ‘Kerbside Sofa’, and it is a trippy, buzzy, awesome rock song about collapsing in an old 3-seater at a house party and watching the world go by.
‘Kerbside Sofa’ takes its time to build as a song, each element finding its groove and warming up, before kicking into a powerful beat, with crunchy guitars and a prominent, strong bass line working alongside spacey, rippling effects. The drums hit hard, and the breakdown at the end of the song is an amazing beast to listen to. These guys play so well together!
The lyrics sing of finding a calm spot within the chaos of a party to talk about life. The contrast of calming lyrics with the whirlwind of music really captures the house party feeling.

The production is strong here, and the vocals really stand out, with a bite and an edge to them, backed by some great chorus harmonies. Compared to their other excellent releases, ‘Kerbside Sofa’ feels like both a natural evolution and an improvement in overall sound!
Bonsai Bay are playing at Black Bear Lodge January 20th to celebrate the release of ‘Kerbside Sofa’, and it is definitely not a gig to be missed. The roaring end of the song alone will be incredible to be a part of.
