Following its First Play on triple j‘s Drive with Abby & Tyrone on Monday night, Skegss return with new single ‘State of Hawaii’, the second single from their upcoming EP, Top Heavy which is out June 27 via Loma Vista Recordings. Marking a fresh sonic departure, the track blends breezy bossa nova rhythms with lush background vocals and vibrant trumpet lines.
“State of Hawaii” follows recent track ‘So Excited’ and is a laid-back tribute to the islands, capturing both the literal paradise and the dream of escape from everyday stress. Alongside the release comes a video directed and produced by Kale Neville, shot while on tour.
Lead singer Benny Reed says on the track, “We had a bit of fun with this song in the studio where we tried a few different versions and then thought it would be fun to go a little Latin or Cuban, a bit of a mix of things. We got some congas in there and trumpet for the first time, as well as some Spanish vocals.”
Having just wrapped a 20+ date headline tour across North America, and now on the tailend of their Europe and UK leg – Skegss are showing no signs of slowing down with their biggest ever Australian tour starting next month to accompany the new EP. Spanning from the east coast to the west, and also featuring placement within the 2025 VIVID program; this nationwide run follows the band performing to their largest crowds yet at Laneway Festival earlier in the year.
Fresh off the back of a UK/EU tour including sold out Glasgow, London and Paris shows; The Buoys are an all-woman rock band from Sydney, Australia, celebrated for their high energy performances and compelling songwriting. Emerging from the local DIY scene, they’ve swiftly become one of Australia’s most exciting and dynamic live acts. Named in triple j Unearthed’s Forecast: Ones To Watch, Fool Nelson are fresh off the back of their own sold out debut national headline tour.
