EP REVIEW – Luci Scott
Census is here with their long-awaited EP, Everything Falls Apart, that’s nothing short of spectacular. Since 2021, I’ve been eagerly anticipating new music from these guys, and thanks to a sneak preview, I can confidently say that these tracks will be on heavy rotation in my playlist.
Hailing from Arkansas, Census brings an incredible amount of energy to the table with ‘Everything Falls Apart’ which releases today. It’s a must-listen.
The EP starts off with a bang, featuring ‘Kinda Fcked Up’, a track that emanates an upbeat, pop-punk- influenced metalcore sound tailor-made for the live stage. Its irresistible kinetic energy, cheeky breakdowns, and brutal screams make it the perfect opening track.
‘WHYAREYOUSTILLTALKINGTOME’ served as the EP’s lead single and is a certified hype track. This breakup anthem exudes an infectious energy that practically begs you to scream along. Census masterfully weaves together pop, pop-punk, and metalcore elements into a single irresistible bop, complete with intriguing sound choices and callbacks.
My personal favourite, ‘WANNABE’ seamlessly transitions from verses to choruses. This track is a powerhouse and practically demands you dance around. Its relatable theme of aspiring for greatness, even in the face of doubts, strikes a deep chord. Drawing inspiration from bands like Waterparks, All Time Low, Stand Atlantic, and Between You and Me, ‘WANNABE’ is a must-listen for fans of these acts.
‘Not Ur BF’ delivers an unapologetic message about falling out of love. Census’s unique blend of metal, pop-punk, and pure vibes, with subtle hip-hop elements, truly shines here. This is the kind of track that leaves you yearning for a live performance, and I’m hopeful we’ll get to experience it one day in Australia.

Everything Falls Apart comes to a close with ‘To Listen, To Laugh’, a beautiful and raw ballad that perfectly encapsulates the longing for someone. Just when you think you’ve heard it all, Census surprises with a cheeky breakdown, showcasing Ben’s outstanding vocals.
In my book, Everything Falls Apart deserves a solid 10/10. If you’re still on the fence about its greatness, I urge you to give it a listen – it’s out today via Adventure Cat Records and promises an unforgettable musical journey. Don’t miss it!
