Confidence Man are an indie electro pop group from Brisbane who have recently released their 3rd album titled ‘3am (LA LA LA)’. They hit the forum in Melbourne to celebrate their new release and it was definitely the party of the year.
To set the mood for the night LOODS a DJ from Newcastle played for an hour in the lead up to the main act Confidence Man. Playing around with mostly house and dance music it created a lively club atmosphere in the beautiful Forum. You couldn’t help but dance, everyone was having so much fun and warming up for Confidence Man. Throughout that hour when LOODS was playing the venue kept on filling up, being a sold out show it was packed.
It all started with a distorted countdown from ten, as it got closer to one you could feel the tension in the room swell. As soon as they jumped on stage it went from 0 to 100 real quick, opening with ‘Now U Do’. Every single second that Sugar Bones (Aidan Moore) and Janet Planet (Grace Stephenson) are onstage they are putting in and giving all of their energy to the crowd. It’s simply contagious. It’s something amazing to see, a band giving off so much to their audience and the audience whole heartedly reciprocating. Their iconic dance choreography throughout their set is something like no other, to be able to sing and dance with that much gusto is super impressive, their stamina is impeccable.

It had a theatrical edge as it was set in acts, with the frontpeople, Sugar Bones and Janet Planet falling through the stage between them for costume changes. None the less throughout those breaks the rest of the band kept the crowd moving. Although I think if they had fewer costumes changes their set could’ve been longer. But in saying that their costumes are so iconic and it has always been a staple part of their set. The colourful visuals added an extra pop of fun into their set and made it even more of a visual spectacle.
The set itself went by like a flash of lightning, it was composed mostly with tracks from 3am (LA LA LA) and also featured the classics such as ‘C.O.O.L Party’, ‘Don’t You Know I’m In a Band’ and ‘Holiday’. I have seen Confidence Man a few times now and they never seem to disappoint, they aren’t afraid to break the rules. They create their own little world for everyone to escape to and have a good time.
