2 April 2023 – The Pier, Frankston – review by Sarah Gorozidis – pictures by Paris Gorozidis
Due to some confusion with set times, we missed one of the support acts, Aleksiah. Although I am sure she charmed the crowd and put on an amazing show for the crowd.
The second support act we actually made it in time for was Coterie. One of the first things they did was take the audience through the pronunciation of their name, as many people get it wrong. Being a band of brothers just like Lime Cordiale, originally originating from New Zealand but within the last few years they migrated to the west coast in Perth. There were only 3 members as one of the brothers was unfortunately absent. Tyler was on lead vocals and guitar, Brandford on bass and backing vocals and Joshua on keys and guitar, having drums played on a playback track. Sonically they had heavy bass lines and hard hitting drums, with elements of reggae throughout their songs. They left an imprint on the audience, leaving a wonderful impression and I’m sure they would gain more exposure and followers from this experience.
Lime Cordiale playing a regional tour called the ‘Fantastical Country Club Experience’ was something that lots of fans including myself have been waiting for, for a long time. The last couple of times they played in Melbourne were larger venues, such as the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Playing at The Pier Hotel in Frankston was something that Melbourne fans had been eager to see. With the limited production compared to their past tour, it created a more intimate show, reminding us of their 2019 days when they played The Corner Hotel in Richmond. Along with keeping this nostalgic feel, the set list was dominated by their older music, tracks from ‘Permanent Vacation’. Giving the audience a lovely surprise playing songs they don’t often play such as ‘Walk Over Everything I Do’ and ‘Not That Easy’.
The concept of Lime’s show was circus themed; this was consistent and relevant throughout the show which set a playful mood matching their personality as a band. Some of the transitions between songs were circuseque instrumentals which was very fun for both the band and the audience. The lighting that was reoccurring that I noticed and stuck to the theme was predominantly red and blue, which flashed to the music and reminded me of a circus show.
The set was full of excitement and energy as Louis climbed up on the speakers and hung from wires whilst singing ‘Facts of Life’. Pleasing the fans in every way possible the show didn’t disappoint, as always Lime Cordiale entertained a sold out crowd and kept them constantly dancing and singing along to all their songs. They also announced another show in Melbourne for later in the month due to high demand for the sold out tour.
