LA-based singer songwriter Natalie Jane (aka Natalie Jane Janowski) brought her powerful and intense Sick To My Stomach Tour to The Tivoli for her first ever performance in Brisbane, Australia and it was a stripped back performance and concentrated on her amazing vocal capacity. It was exhilarating!
I have been a member of Natalie Jane’s Twisted Tummy Club since first hearing this young musician’s work online with the energetic, dark pop she is crafting and her thrilling vocal range. It was exciting for her ‘very loud’ fans to see her here in Brisbane – in person – there were an abundance of roses, pandas, flags and glittery posters.
Natalie Jane has been making waves and broke out into the US and global music industry by releasing singles online through social media sites and by auditioning on Season 18 of American Idol. She has racked-up over 1 million subscribers on YouTube, 2 million followers on Instagram, and 9 million streams on TikTok and Netflix commissioned her to write the song ‘The Top’ that features in their series ‘Uglies’. Natalie Jane has been carving out her own career as a song writer and as a powerful vocalist with one of the most distinctive pop voices of her generation. In 2023, she released her debut album ‘Where Am I?’. In 2024, she released her new EP Sick To My Stomach and she has brought that tour to Australia. So, let’s hop into it.
Up first to The Tivoli stage was supporting musician Oliver Cronin and his band. He has recently released his debut EP Halfway To Paradise with the singles ‘Girl Next Door’, ‘Heartless’, ‘More Than A Kiss’ and ‘Hello Goodbye’. Oliver Cronin was joined in performing with his amazing guitarist and drummer. The band really helped him flesh out his pop sound. I have seen Oliver Cronin perform live three times now. He is just getting better each time with his live performance delivery and command of the stage. He has the songs and the moves.

Oliver Cronin’s musicality and song writing has been developing as well. He deserves the listing for his EP in the Top 10 of the 2024 year from Rolling Stone. Hearing his songs live from his vulnerable ballads to club-ready bangers was revealing and his setlist was impressive. He performed: ‘Exit’, the smoky, late-night vibes of ‘Burning House’, the atmosphere-heavy ‘In The End’, ‘Heartless’, ‘The Way You Like It’, the fun ‘Girl Next Door’ minus Charley, the new ‘Room For Two’, ‘1,2,3’ and the impressive ‘Hello Goodbye’. And, a new album may be on the way, which is really hopeful with new music being played last night.
There is a lot to like in watching local Bryon Bay musician Oliver Cronin. He has a very solid pop sensibility and his control in winning over a crowd was impressive. He got the crowd well and truly warmed up with actions and singing. The twittering of approval down the front of the stage from the young music fans that he and his band were ‘hot’ was charming. It was a really good supporting set.
After this 35-minute set, the lights dropped and the concert went into a 40-minute intermission before the main act. As the lights dimmed down again, the time had come for Natalie Jane to take centre stage. Her fans screamed at the top of their lungs as she and her lovely ‘Australian and single’ drummer made their way on stage.
Natalie Jane is a high energy performer. And, she kicked off the set, with that energy with the tour title track ‘Sick To My Stomach’ before she launched straight into ‘The Top’. Then, she stopped and said “Okay. Who has a tattoo?” and she didn’t even wait for the answer as she started singing her very impressive song ‘Tattoos’.
She had the whole crowd swaying back and forth to her viral hits like ‘Can I See You Tonight’, ‘If You Died Today’ and ‘Mentally Cheating’. Natalie Jane relaxed after this point in the performance and she slowed things down with news about a new album on the way as she performed a new song ‘Into The Blue’, followed by a lovely rendition of ‘June’ and then ‘Somebody To Someone’.

Natalie Jane was starting to enjoy herself and the crowd’s volume. And, you could sense the relief. The crowd felt it too. She was putting her heart and soul into singing and vocal delivery. But it wasn’t just her vocal prowess that captivated the crowd. It was also her stage presence and undeniable charisma. She really drew the crowd into her world with anecdotes, laughter, and moments of vulnerability.
There was special first ever Australian tour moments when Natalie Jane was given an Australian flag which she draped around herself and engaged in the “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie – Oi Oi Oi” chant, she did not do a ‘shoey’ – thank God, and she received gifts of a very large panda from a fan, Grace, that lived on the stage and was flying to Sydney with Natalie Jane as her new cuddly, and she received a beautiful jacket with panda art from a fan, Emily.
Natalie Jane, then, got back to performing and upped the tempo with ‘Yucky’ and hit the back end of her set another new song ‘Are You Gonna Love Me’, and she followed that with the brilliant ‘Torture’ and ‘I Am Her’. She halted again and vibed with the crowd and in a somewhat sweet moment as she gave out roses, she thanked everyone for their support and that this was her first ever visit to Australia as she was still processing: “the 15 hour flight”. The supportive fanbase cheered her on. It was a heart-warming to see their reactions.
Then, Natalie Jane launched into the last songs with ‘Intrusive Thoughts’, ‘Seven’, ‘Do or Die’ and an extended version of ‘Ava’ in two parts. She performed the song as the end of her set and left the stage. Then, she reappeared on stage and performed it again.
All in all, Natalie Jane left an incredible mark on the hearts of all those fans in attendance at The Tivoli. Fans were glowing with happiness as they left the venue. The merch desk had completely run out of stock. And, Natalie Janecontinues her Sick To My Stomach Tour in Sydney and Melbourne.
Check Natalie Jane out when she’s in a city near you. It’ll be a memorable event! I was lucky enough to catch it.
