Rain came down, drums echoed across the Brisbane city, and not a single person stood still as G Flip opened the Australian leg of the Dream Ride Tour to a full house of fans of all ages at Riverstage on Friday night, marking their biggest headline show to date.
The night began with Australia’s very own Ayesha Madon, who was given the vital task of letting the crowd hyped up for G Flip, and she did exactly that. With her hyper pop influences and impeccable stage presence, the audience was left speechless at the fact that she is a homegrown sensation. She gave the stage her all and left hard shoes to fill for the upcoming acts of the night.

The stage was then gracefully taken over by the Canadian band The Beaches, who truly rocked everybody’s socks off. The 4-piece girl group celebrated queer love, joy, and heartbreak, and had everyone captivated for their entire set. But the real heartbreak was when they left the stage just after making the packed-out venue fall in love with them. The Beaches definitely set the tone for the unmissable act that was approaching and had me on the edge of my seat, awaiting the arrival of G Flip.

Shortly after The Beaches finished, the lights dulled as the screen counted down for the moment that G Flip entered the stage in an all-black outfit alongside their outstanding line-up of bandmates. The crowd instantly erupted in anticipation for the phenomenal night ahead of singing, dancing, surprise guest appearances and an out-of-this-world showcase of musical talent. The show opened perfectly with fan-favourite ‘Disco Cowgirl’ from their 2025 album Dream Ride and warmed everyone up to party despite the wet weather that showered the audience, failing to bring any spirits down.
The energy then followed through lively tracks: ‘Gay 4 Me’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Regret’, ‘Drink Too Much’, ‘Real Life’, and ‘Hyperfine’, in which G Flip brought all their tools to the stage such as a large LGBTQIA+ flag, a laid-back Aussie stage presence, and an impressive saxophone solo to remind the crowd why they are one of Australia’s most extraordinary performers and inviting punters into their world to celebrate the thrill of the show.
Then came the reveal of one of the most renowned aspects of G Flip’s unique talent, a captivating drum performance as they sang ‘Good Enough’ before seamlessly progressing into a drum-off with 2 other drummers on the stage. As this happened, the production team subtly moved the drum kit forward to be closer to the audience, and the lighting spotlighted each stage member in their respective performance.

After singing ‘Rough’, the star singer vanished off the stage, reappearing in a white and brown look to sing ‘Big Ol’ Hammer’, before changing again into a black and white outfit for the duration of the show. These outfit changes were subtle but had the crowd roaring in excitement over the new appearances and were a testament to G Flip’s well-known style.
The show took a vibrant turn as G Flip started singing their Triple J Like a Version cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Cruel Summer’, which gained millions of streams and radio plays in 2024 and has been a favourite across Australia since. The euphoric track was screamed back twice as loud by a crowd that clearly knew every word and wanted to show it.As the audience rode the adrenaline high of the cover of the night, G Flip had another trick up their sleeve, calling out for their good friend Thelma Plum to join the stage to sing her song ‘Better in Blak’, which again the crowd was eager for and sang passionately to the duo performing together.
Then came an incredible medley of G Flips’ discography, combining 6 songs: ‘About You’, ‘Killing My Time’, ‘Bring Me Home’, ‘I Am Not Afraid’, ‘You & I’, and ‘Queen’. These songs were articulated perfectly to flow together like one big song, and fans loved that they got to hear so many of G’s songs from every album in just one night. Just as the weather cleared and everyone was ready for a break from jumping, G Flip sat down at the front of the stage to sing their 2023 acoustic track ‘Australia’; the community and collective harmonies of the strangers together were like nothing short of angelic and brought an unexpected sentiment to the show.

The show progressed into the night with songs like ‘Lover’, ‘Be Your Man’, ‘Bed On Fire’, and even the live debut of ‘Lez Go’, coming out on the 6th of March, featuring the extremely talented opening act The Beaches! During this song, The Beaches made their second stage appearance of the night to sing with G, and so did two young fans from the audience who had been bringing the energy for the entire show and did not disappoint when they were put on the big screens, singing, and dancing their hearts out.
G Flip then, as expected, left the stage to initiate a traditional ‘one more song’ chant from the crowd, and chant they did. Just moments later, the band reappeared, and fans went crazy over the chance to groove some more. It was time for arguably the most anticipated song of the night, ‘Worst Person Alive’, which, in 2023, landed G Flip a number 2 spot in the Triple J Hottest 100 (as well as contributing to their record of the most entries in a single Hottest 100 by an artist). The venue turned into a giant house party as everyone sang along to the hit single until they quickly moved into the final song of the night, another fan favourite, ‘In Another Life’.

G Flip took a moment to thank their band, team, wife, and the fans for making this show possible before the Aussie cultural phenomenon ‘Nutbush’ started playing, and the entire venue line danced in unison from top to bottom. The band walked off the stage as crowds continued jumping and clapping, creating the perfect end to the night, and leaving Brisbane fans desperately waiting for the chance to host the remarkable singer once again.
