Interview by Cecilia Pattison-Levi
Danish band Michael Learns To Rock will bring their Take Us To Your Heart Tour to Brisbane in February 2026 and it will be their first visit to play in Australia. The band that formed in high school in Aarhus, Denmark who “took the band name from our love of Michael Jackson – we imagined what might happen if the King of Pop “learnt to rock” consists of Jascha Richter (vocalist/keyboards), Mikkel Lentz (guitarist/vocalist and songwriter) and Kåre Wanscher (drums).
Cecilia caught up with drummer Kåre Wanscher about the bands longevity as they formed in 1988 and their enduring presence in the music world with a sound that is “so completely different from what we are doing”.
Michael Learns To Rock (aka MLTR) built their music around classic melodies and bathed in a kind romantic glow. The band has had great success in Asia, Europe and around the world with their 11 albums and hit songs ‘That’s Why’ (1995), ‘A Life To Remember’ (2024), ‘Paint My Love’ (1996) that has cemented their reputation as masters of melodic pop with a 1970s inspired soundscape.
For Australian fans, this will be the first opportunity to see Michael Learns To Rock live.
