Interview by Cecilia Pattison-Levi
Live Wire caught up with the Full Flower Moon Band (FFMB) on the eve of their Megaflower Deluxe album launch set for the 8 December 2025.
Megaflower Deluxe has a distinct vinyl lay out (two sides) and is filled with new songs. It is a real deluxe package as it offers new music, demos that show the song writing process and songs that are collaborations starting with the big rock song of ‘Scene’ featuring Gustaf. ‘Scene’ is worth the price of admission alone for the new vinyl. It’s going to be a classic! It is a great rock song about the beast within – when being a ‘star’ in a rock band.
Megaflower Deluxe focus is delivering new music – while the band take to thinking about future musical next steps – and fans can enjoy the new indie-pop sounds of ‘Harder Man’ featuring Nicholas Allbrook with its great vocal interplay, fantastic melodic guitar riffs and that chugging guitar underneath holding the melody line. Then, the very punk, in its origins, ‘Smoking’ featuring Drunk Mums with its flat vocal delivery and its bogan philosophy. It’s funny and kind of sad at the same time. The idiosyncratic and humorous ‘Female Mechanic’ is very specific song full of engineering detail about engine and car specs with great drumming underpinning it and well-placed guitar riffs. The very sexy acoustic vocal delivery of ‘Speed Limit’ follows and it is another album highlight.
The album offers ‘Wingman’ with its woozy jazz soundscape. Deep cuts and remixes: ‘Scene Reprise’, ‘Cowboy Demo’ and ‘Call My Name’. The album closes out with a live rendition of the quiet rock ‘n’ roll ballad of ‘Kiss Him Goodbye’ and the arrangement is totally different.
FFMB have delivered in ‘Megaflower Deluxe’ an album that music fans will love. There’s no profit over art here. ‘Megaflower Deluxe’ is all musical art.
